Our Story

Our Beginnings

First Free Will Baptist Church has been part of the tucson community for 60+ years dating back to the early 1950’s. a small group of leaders started a Bible study, began praying, and with the help of family and friends, First Free Will Baptist church was established. Our roots have continued to grow deeper here in the Tucson neighborhood, but the story God has continued to write is one that’s helping those in our community and all around the world find freedom, purpose, and fulfillment through a life-changing relationship with Jesus.

Our Beliefs

The Bible. The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God to humanity, and are our infallible guide for faith and practice.

God. There is one living and true God, revealed in nature as the Creator, Preserver, and Righteous governor of the universe; and in the Scriptures as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; yet as one God, infinitely wise and good, whom all creatures should love, adore, and obey.

Jesus. Jesus Christ is God in the flesh; fully God and fully man. He is the mediator between God and man, once crucified, He is now risen and glorified, our ever present Savior and Lord. Through Him we find redemption from sin that is full and free, and is the foundation of salvation by faith.

The Holy Spirit. The Scriptures assign to the Holy Spirit all the attributes of God and He lives within each believer.

The Sinfulness of Humanity. Humans were created innocent, but by disobedience fell into a state of sin and condemnation. All humans inherit a fallen nature and as such are guilty before a perfect, holy God.

Salvation. Salvation is when one repents of his or her sins, places his or her faith in Jesus as Savior, and commits to follow Him as Lord of his or her life. Those who have placed their faith in Jesus receive the Holy Spirit. God desires the salvation of all people. All believers in Christ, who through grace persevere in holiness to the end of life, have promise of eternal salvation.

Gospel Ordinances. Baptism, or the immersion of believers in water; and the Lord’s Supper, or Communion, are ordinances to be practiced based on the example of Christ.

Tithing. God commanded tithes and offerings in the Old Testament, Jesus Christ endorsed them in the gospels (Matt. 23:23), and the apostle Paul said, “On the first day of the week, each of you is to set something aside and save in keeping with how he is prospering” (1 Cor. 16:2a).

The Christian Sabbath. God tells believers to devote one day a week to rest, refresh, and refuel.

Resurrection, Judgment, and Final Retribution. The Scriptures teach the resurrection of all people at the last day. Those who put their faith in Jesus will experience resurrection of life, and those who rejected Christ will experience eternal punishment. This is why followers of Jesus display an urgency in sharing the gospel with all people.

Our Values

We live with integrity.

We will do what’s right just because it’s right.

“For we are taking great care to do what is right, not only before the Lord, but also before men.”—2 Corinthians 8:21

We serve joyfully.

Our service is fueled by God’s active work in us.

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”—Mark 10:45

We embrace humility.

Pride is about us; humility is about God and others.

“He must become greater; I must become less.”—John 3:30

We choose unity.

By the power of the Holy Spirit, we work together toward common spiritual goals.

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”—Psalm 133:1

We minister with focus.

We will be laser-focused on what contributes to our mission and vision.

“But see first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”—Matthew 6:33
